The most refreshing thing we've heard in ages. Paul Steel kind of sounds like lots of things but more importantly this guy is evidently a huge talent with clever ears, wit and an aptitude for home recordings like noone else on earth.
So we could talk about Elvis Costello, The Beach Boys, The Super Furrys etc. but we'll just focus on Paul Steel - a name that we believe is going to befit the likes of the above in the not so distant future.
Download I'm In A Coma now unless of course you actually are in a coma. Then you and your kind are probably the only people on earth who won't get this!
Look out for the forthccoming Wall Of Sound release from Paul entitled 'April & I' that also features another downloader fabourite Kate Walsh. Here's a very eloquent Press Release on the work ...
"April & I” is the dark symphonic musical tale of a loser kid and his imaginary friend on their quest to grow up trouble free. Follow the pair as they meet each other, beat the amino acids out of the SCHOOL BULLY, pursue many pathetic attempts at scoring with girls, get high on crack at a mental Scottish house party, and eventually grow up and away from each other.
Composed and recorded entirely in a smelly student flat in Kemptown, Brighton, (with the windows left open so listen carefully for drunks and seagulls) in Summer 2006, “April & I” was finished moments before PAUL STEEL left his teenage years behind him for good. With additional vocals from Kate Walsh and the “Little Tiny Bill Symphonic Choir”, this is an epic journey that gently nudges you through the three primary human emotions: HAPPY, Sad and Stoned…
So pour a glass of your favourite Rioja, close the blinds, dim the lights, and take 27 minutes out of your hectic day to enjoy something beautiful and bizarre.
